Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.
It’s never too late to re-invent yourself.
When most people get started in property, they focus solely on seeking out tactics and strategies. While learning the different types of property strategies, understanding how to find deals below the market value, and having the academic ability to raise finance is crucial to the process of becoming a successful property investor, there is something much more significant, of which the everyday person is completely unaware.
In this article, I will offer a different perspective on what you may have presumed. However, this is a crucial part of becoming not just a successful property investor, but an all-around decent human being.
Get rid of the “failure uniform.”
Life doesn’t happen to you; it happens because of you and for you. Every event, circumstance and person that enter your proximity becomes either a lesson or a blessing. To evolve and grow or to evolve and let go.
To further substantiate this teaching, I will apply a metaphor that Dean Graziosi uses in his latest book, titled “millionaire success habits”.
We all have the wolf of abundance and the wolf of scarcity within us. The wolf of scarcity emulates our dark side and is the force responsible for holding us back from achieving our dreams.
However, we also have the hero within us, and this is the wolf of abundance. If you want to become a successful property investor, you must feed the wolf of abundance daily, and stop listening to the wolf of scarcity.
When listening to and focusing on the wolf of scarcity, we apportion the blame at the external world where it is always someone’s else’s fault.
But when we point the finger at someone or something, there are always three pointing right back at us.
If you want to change, the world, then first start with yourself, or as Gandhi most eloquently stated; “Be the change you wish to see in the Worl.” That will entail first ridding yourself of the “failure uniform”, then to take full responsibility for your life in order to find the solutions, rather than problems.
Want to know the world’s biggest secret? “The secret to living is giving”. It’s not about me, but we. Find ways to serve and contribute, and I guarantee you that your happiness will multiply tenfold.
Remember, success without fulfilment equals failure, and regardless of how much money you make following my advice, if you don’t give back and make a difference to people worse off than yourself, you will have failed.
The key to becoming a successful property investor is that you must add value and help solve other people’s problems, as well as your own. When you seek to solve other people’s problems first, and help others before helping yourself, you will naturally end up contributing to your own success.
We live in a world of abundance and opportunity, give advice and help others, and don’t expect anything in return. When you adopt this new mentality, success will gravitate to you.
There are several ways in which you can do this, but first and foremost you must learn to solve other people’s property problems. What is their most challenging obstacle and how can I help them overcome it in a completely ethical way? That is the same type of negotiation and mindset that you need to adopt when raising finance for a property project if you want to secure a joint venture partner.
Resistance is the most significant sign of success.
When most people feel resistance, they think that they are doing something wrong. They believe that they are unsuccessful. Often when people think this way, they stop taking action and self-sabotage.
Resistance is a sign that you are doing something right and on your way to success. In fact, It is impossible to grow without it. The bigger the resistance, the bigger the reward. So go for it and wake up the sleeping lion that dwells within you.
Custom-built to specification.
Where you are right now, is precisely where you need to be. If things are tough at the moment, it’s for a good reason. You need to understand the lesson to hand. Success doesn’t come easy; nothing does that’s worth having.
Successful people are where they are because they do what it takes. Moreover, what they do above the crowd is take responsibility for where they are, knowing that their life successes and failures are due to what they do or don’t do in life.
That can be seen and reflected in your current character. Wherever you are in life, it is a result of your actions, behaviours and beliefs. So, if you want to become a successful property investor and take control of your life including your financial freedom, then you need to become your greatest version by raising your standards. Remember. We get what we deserve because we get what we tolerate. It’s time to raise the bar and level up.
Emulate the multi-million-pound property investor.
The easiest way to become a successful property investor is to emulate the characteristics of one. I have an exercise that I teach, which outlines the strategies you will need to bring this to life.
Once you start to map out the attributes of a multi-million-pound property investor and their daily routines, it soon becomes apparent, the mindset required to get you from where you are now to the person you wish to become is vast.
However, don’t worry, in the property investors accelerator program, we give you all the tools needed to help you fill this void, and to help make this transition a reality.
Subtract when others around you are adding.
Less is more. That is a very contrarian point for most people and goes against what most people think to be true. To become a successful property investor or in general terms, to become successful, most people believe that they must do more and add more things to their “to do list”. Instead, the reality is that you should focus on writing out a “what not to do list”.
For many people getting started in property, this means to learn to walk before you can run. Instead of over-complicating things which quickly leads to overwhelm, get clear on your circumstances and your goals. When you become incredibly disciplined, and focus on a maximum of one or two property strategies, you will gain a lot more traction in a shorter time-frame.
Add value.
The market rewards you, it not what is in your head or what you think is a good idea that will bring success and revenue. To become a successful property investor, you must give the market what it wants. That was one of my biggest lessons, not just in property, but in previous business ventures to which I was involved.
I learnt the same product could be “hyper-profitable” in one location and a total loss leader in another. That is the guiding principle that I now follow every time. I bring a product to market, or buy a property and think about how I can improve it. I listen to the market and give it what it wants. That is how I create value, and I will teach you how to do it.
Winning alone is soulless.
If you want to become a successful property investor, you must understand that you need people. Joint ventures are one of the secret weapons that multi-million-pound property investors and developers use to grow their business.
People are at the heart of everything, so learn to be open, kind, remain authentic and speak your truth. Follow what you believe in, and live with total congruency. If you say a thing, then do a thing. It takes a lifetime to build a fantastic reputation, but nothing at all to ruin one.
Be mindful of this, not just in business, but life itself. By learning how to become your greatest version, you can experience a life of complete fulfilment, financial freedom and choice.
Remember, it’s never too late to re-invent yourself; you can become whomever you want to become if you take massive action and adopt a caring, but winning mindset. Keep doing what you have always done, and you will continue to get what you have always gotten. Einstein said, “Insanity was doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.” It’s time to level up and leave insanity behind.
Becoming a successful property investor starts with changing yourself.
